Masdevallia barleana : Orchid Species InformationGenus name : Masdevallia
Species : barleana
This is a delightful small to medium sized species, which rapidly grows into a specimen plant when happy in its culture. A lithophyte from Colombia and Peru, it is easy to grow. Cool temperatures are essential, it is happy down to about 47f (8c or 9c), but probably does best at 50f (10c). The 8” inflorescence holds the single pretty 1.5” flower above the foliage, and several inflorescences are produced at a time. The flower colour is variable through shades of metallic/fluorescent pinks and reds. The sepals have tails of about 1” in length, which are the same colour as the sepals. The flowering season is summer to autumn.
Specific Epithet : Barla’s Masdevallia. A Brazilian orchid collector.
