Cymbidium pubescens : Orchid Species InformationGenus name : Cymbidium
Species : pubescens
This species causes me some consternation. We have listed this plant for quite a while, but while I am assured by the suppliers it is C. pubescens, it doesn’t resemble it in the slightest. The plant is reputed to be a large growing Cymbidium with large thick fleshy leaves; the flowers are white with a thick purple stripe along the centre of the petals and sepals. The inflorescence is pendant to about 2’ and carries around 20 flowers 1” across. The species we have as C. pubescens is a small neat plant with fine leaves, and although it hasn’t yet flowered, it resembles in habit, Cymbidium erythraeum. I shall update this section and the price list when my plants flower. Cymbidium pubescens is an intermediate grower and prefers to be kept growing year round. It is found as an epiphyte in India, China and Malaysia.
Specific Epithet : Downy, short-haired.
