Kefersteinia Orchid GenusSubtribe : Zygopetalinae
Meaning : German orchid grower.
A genus of about 36 species found growing in South America. They are distinguished by their lack of pseudobulbs, and the fan-like arrangement of the leaves. Normally this genus requires high humidity due to the fact that they have no pseudobulbs to store water, and ample shade is also required. They are normally found in wet mountain forest as epiphytes and sometimes terrestrials. No dry rest in the winter and good supplies of water and fertiliser during the growing season. They are mainly spring and summer flowering plants, but many species can flower at any time of the year.
